PING IN A NUTSHELL
The origins
Contrary to popular belief, table tennis did not originate in Asia, but in England. In the late 19th century, British army officers and members of high society were looking for a way to play tennis indoors when rain prevented them from playing outside.
The first equipment : Everyday objects were used. A row of books served as a net, a champagne cork carved into a sphere acted as a ball, and cigar boxes served as rackets.
The name : Back then, it was known as ‘Gossima’, ‘Flim-Flam’ or even ‘Whiff-Waff’.
Table Tennis: The art of reflexes and tactics
Table tennis is much more than just a pastime; it is a high-level Olympic sport that combines speed technique and mental strategy. In France, under the leadership of the FFTT, the sport is experiencing unprecedented growth, driven by a new generation of champions and an increasingly diverse range of opportunities to play.
