TENNIS IN A NUTSHELL

The origins

Tennis has its roots in the ‘Jeu de Paume’, which originated in France in the 13th century. It was not until the late 19th century, in England, that Major Walter Clopton Wingfield codified ‘Lawn Tennis’. Soon, the playing surfaces diversified (grass, clay) and the sport went global with the creation of legendary tournaments (Grand Slams) such as Wimbledon and Roland Garros.

Tennis: The art of competition and perseverance

Modern tennis is much more than just a game of hitting a ball back and forth. It is a comprehensive sport that demands athletic fitness, strategic vision and a steely resolve. In France, under the impetus of the French Tennis Federation, the sport is enjoying a new golden age, boosted by the modernisation of facilities and the emergence of young talents who are flying the French flag high on the ATP and WTA tours.
